The climax of the Young Innovators in Agribusiness Competition was The Agribusiness Innovation and Trade Fair Forum (AITF2016) which featured East African and AGOA Countries youth owned Start-Ups and SMEs. The AITF2016 took place on May 27, 2016 atCrowne Plaza in Nairobi, Kenya. The Top 30 Startups and SMEs from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Ethiopia were given an opportunity to showcase their viable businesses as well as pitch their ideas to potential investors and stakeholders. The top 30 finalists were selected after attending the Young Innovators in Agribusiness Competition in Arusha on February 2016. The youth specialize in processing, finance, software & apps development, agro-mechanization, packaging and export services.
The AITF2016 attracted investors from Agribusiness related organizations like IBM Research Africa, Jenga Legal, Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), Global Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship Center, USIU- Africa, Kenya Markets Trust, Bizkati, Farm Space, APEM Investment among others.
The climax of the Agribusiness Innovation and Trade Fair was the recognition of the top Six finalists from the two categories who were awarded with seed capital amounting to USD 20 000. The top 6 will also receive a three months business coaching at Toyota Kenya Academy. Among other benefits to the participants are grants from the investors.
